Born in 1955 in Cobourg, Ontario, Len Ward came to Ottawa in 1974 to study architecture at Carleton University. There his long relationship with photography also began. After graduating in 1980, he took a position with the National Museums of
Canada where he was involved with projects such as the National Aviation Museum, the Museum of Civilization and the Canadian Museum of Contemporary Photography.

In 1987 he left the public sector for private practice, becoming a partner in Temprano Young & Ward Architects Inc. In 2007 he left behind his involvement with the firm in order to establish arts&architecture, a venture which saw the coming together of his passions for both architecture and photographic art. His Old Ottawa South location now accommodates his architectural practice, photographic studio and art gallery.
